The New Yorker's Jane Mayer Gets Critical at the Commonwealth Club Tonight

Photo via Commonwealth Club

New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer kept a close watch on the Bush Administration, specifically in regard to policies around terrorism and torture. Her most recent book, The Dark Side: The Inside Story of How The War on Terror Turned into a War on American Ideals, explores the dissonance (to put it nicely) between the Constitution and the methods employed by Bush & Company in their war on terrorism. Mayer will talk about the practices and consequences of the Bush Administration this evening at the Commonwealth Club (6pm). In February 2007, Mayer turned a critical eye on the TV show 24, which she wrote "depicts the fight against Islamist extremism much as the Bush Administration has defined it: as an all-consuming struggle for America’s survival that demands the toughest of tactics."
