That's worth to read. You have enlightened me. I like to read something vigorelle that make me become sophisticated. My special feelings for my neighborhood is tied up in a tree. Actually, not one individual tree but a kind of tree. When I was 6 and 7 years old I lived in the Richmond District -- in the great central plains of the Richmond between Park Presidio Blvd and 25th Avenue: not quite the Inner Richmond and not foggy enough to qualify as the Outer Richmond. After school, on the days when my brother and I wouldn’t jump on the back bumper of the Geary bus and ride out to Playland by the Sea to hide from our chaotic home in Laughing Sal’s funhouse, we would stop in the green belt along Park Presido Blvd and climb through the jumble of trees that twisted like giant plates of spaghetti. We could leap from tree to tree, hide in the leafy crowns and run along the length of the branches what seemed like the entire block. We were Tarzan in the great jungle forests, Robin Hood of Sherwood and yet we were only a few feet off the ground and a short run home before we got in the big trouble we were always promised. Now as a fifty year old man, I still live in sight of this miraculous living jungle gym that every year gets a little smaller; another block gets improving landscaping and transients take up more permanent residence in the greenway. I’ve gotten to know now that the trees are Australian tea trees, brought here in the 1850s to help stabilize the shifting sands of the newly built Golden Gate Park. That might have been a good original reason at the time but they were always best as a stand-in for the giant oak trees of Robin Hood’s forest or Tarzan’s giant rainforest trees.

It was a warm and sunny June afternoon. When visibility is as clear as it was today and the clouds are sparse, I like to head to Land's End, in the Outer Richmond. It is breathtaking on a cold and dense day in a romantic yet haunting way. That was not the case today as summer has officially begun and we got a little feel of it. Despite the sun, I was dressed in layers as I toddled with my 13 month old newbie walker on the path that overlooks the bay and the Pacific. With a little one, the new parking lot means easy access and a calm stroll on a marked path. You can go off road a half mile or so into the walk as the path turns into a dirt and rock meandering hiking trail that has sweeping views of the deep blue bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Needless to say, we turned around at that point. The cliff side and rocky terrain was too interesting for a young curious baby to steer straight. We took in the rays, the Golden Gate views and my little girl, of course, tried to eat the gravel. This is why we love you Richmond, because of days like these.

This place has seen them in rolling time With gracious eyes so aged and calm When every centennial or so, she blinks And earth quivers with thoughts only she can think. Now on this green peaceful spot of hope I feel the dreams of the ones I must thank For believing in a future with an open heart Though they may not have tasted the fruits Of their struggles for the American Dream. So through the Golden Gate Bridge lies my heart To the right crash Pacific waves Glory and Légion d'Honneur at Lands End I stand before this great granite stone; A grave chiseled with hope, dreams, and life The element of true Americans amass and alone That is my Land of the Free and my home of the Brave.
