Bacon and Two Eggs, Served Extra Fancy

Bacon and Two Eggs, Served Extra Fancy

By

Are you a brunch fiend, but tired of the standard bacon and egg plate? Are those hash browns leaving you more tired than inspired? Have no fear, “two eggs any style” can be much more exciting than what you’re used to. High-end chefs are now utilizing quality meats, innovative cooking methods, and even throwing in some fresh, local produce to spice things up. Check out these elevated breakfast dishes that'll have you rethinking brunch.

Sweet Maple (pictured above)

This quaint breakfast spot may seem unassuming at first glance, but anywhere that lists “Millionaire’s bacon” as a breakfast item must have something going for it. Featured on “United States of Bacon” on the Discovery Network, this bacon is cut thick, baked with brown sugar, and sprinkled with red and black pepper, and definitely worth the $3 extra. Enjoy this sinfully tasty bacon with two eggs any style, an herb-roasted potato medley, and levain ciabatta toast.

Straw

Known for its whimsical take on brunch, Straw features items such as Jenga French toast and a burger served on a doughnut. So it’s no wonder that this carnival-themed spot has an exciting take on eggs and bacon. Order the “Hanky Panky,” which includes a Belgian waffle, two fried eggs, maple-glazed bacon, and cheddar potato croquettes. No measly slices of white or wheat toast here!

25 Lusk

This sleek, modern restaurant located in SoMa seems almost too hip for brunch. Located in a refurbished meatpacking and smokehouse facility, you may find yourself easily distracted from the menu. That is, until your “two eggs as you wish” arrive, served with mashed avocado, bacon, toasted levain, and potato rosti.

Mission Beach Café

This Mission brunch hotspot has eager brunch goers waiting around the block for hours. And it’s no wonder: Mission Beach Café has some of our favorite bacon in the city. Even though they don’t have one all-inclusive menu item, choose from their sides to create a stellar bacon-and-egg combo. Grab two eggs, their caramelized pepper bacon, and brunch potatoes or a biscuit with pancetta-black pepper gravy (or honey!).  Who says you can’t have your bacon and eat it too?

Olea

For an exotic interpretation of bacon and eggs, try out Olea’s Spanish-inspired menu. Their “cazuela” (a Spanish term for cooking pot) is comprised of eggs, pork, bacon, garbanzo beans, spinach, parmesan cheese, and tomatillo sauce, baked together in something like a stew. This hearty dish will warm you on those cold San Francisco mornings.

Foreign Cinema

Foreign Cinema’s brunch menu is a far cry from the diner fare of your past.  The Mediterranean-inspired menu features unique combinations like sardines with harissa and truffled duck terrine with stone fruit chutney. But if it’s eggs you’re craving, try their famous balsamic fried eggs served over roasted heirloom chicories, and garlic-potato hash, topped with decadent prosciutto slices.
