Six New Brunch Spots in SF

Six New Brunch Spots in SF

By

It’s a new year, and there are plenty of new places to visit for one of SF’s favorite pastimes: brunch. All the crazy-gorgeous weather we’re having should make it very easy for you to roll out of bed and hit one of these places up.

Chile Pies & Ice Cream

Fans of Green Chile Kitchen’s breakfast burrito will now be able to head down the street to its little sister, Chile Pies, for some brunch action on weekends from 11am–2pm. Saturday January 18th is the maiden voyage, and there will be some adult brunch bevvies to join you on the journey. Brunch includes a breakfast egg pie (!) with eggs and either vegetables or bacon, and green chile biscuits and gravy. 601 Baker St.

Hi Lo

Sunday brunch is now a permanent thing here, running from 11am–2:30pm. The menu has some Southern-inflected picks (I see you, chicken fried steak and eggs), shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, along with ember-baked eggs, and some lighter choices like house-smoked salmon with rye lavash or fruit with yogurt for you healthy types still trying to drop holiday poundage. There is quite the list of brunch cocktails going on, including a jerked Bloody Mary. Check out the menu here.3416 19th St.

La Urbana

After hitting the Sunday Divisadero farmers’ market, you can meander on in to La Urbana for their Sunday brunch (11am–2:30pm). The normally dark room is full of light, all the better to read the cocktail menu (my reco. is the Mexican Dude, with housemade horchata, vodka, mezcal, and espresso coffee liqueur—duuuude). The menu includes chilaquiles with very flavorful carne asada ($15), huevos con chorizo ($15), and an omelette with manchego and bacon ($12). Don’t expect a big, overloaded plate with rice and beans however—these are a bit more composed (but still muy delicioso). 661 Divisadero St.

Sabrosa

Take advantage of the sunny weather and try to snag an outdoor table at this new spot in the Marina. Brunch runs Sat–Sun 10am–3:30pm, and after you get going with one of their excellent margaritas (or saddle up for the Macho, which includes roasted jalapeño), you’ll want to put your order in for the fideo with spicy shrimp, the chilaquiles rojos, and don’t miss a few dishes from the raw bar (start with the aguachile rojo campechano, with mixed seafood like scallops and shrimp steeped in chiltepin chile and lime). 3200 Fillmore St.

St. Vincent

Not just for wine and dinner: this Mission spot is now serving brunch on Saturdaysfrom 12pm–3pm. The menu includes toasted country bread with all kinds of spreads, scrapple with fried eggs, and a rye waffle; take a peek right here. You can perk up with some Bicycle Coffee Co. before seguing into some fab sparkling wine; there’s word that they will be adding a few brunch “cocktails” (and Sunday service soon too). 1270 Valencia St.

Victory Hall & Parlor

This newly opened joint in the former 330 Ritch has a hearty weekend brunch, courtesy of Little Skillet (who is running the kitchen). Smoked brisket hash, fried chicken and waffles, a big biscuit sandwich, and an extensive menu of brunch cocktails are all in the playbook here. The communal tables are a bonus for larger groups trying to brunch together (ditto the larger-format drink options). And here’s the best part: it runs all day! Sat-Sun 10am–12am. 330 Ritch St.
