For a big Broadway musical that is otherwise (to quote one character) as  corny as Kansas in August, South Pacific is full of darkness. Despite its cavalcade of terrific songs, this 1949 musical serenades war, death and racism. And features some creepy characters.

Come out for the Tony Award-winning Rodgers & Hammerstein classic South Pacific. Set on a tropical island during World War II, the musical tells the sweeping romantic story of two couples—US Navy nurse Nellie Forbush and French plantation owner Emile de Becque and Navy Airman Joe Cable and a young local native girl Liat—and how their happiness is threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices.
