Look of the Week: Spring Forward

(blog)

It's no secret that we've been anxiously awaiting spring for quite some time now, September to be exact.

Well the wait is finally over and we're beyond excited to start trying out the looks we fell head-over-heels for over during Fashion Week, from mixed prints to Americana. We're particularly elated that the trends that are popping up in boutiques and our favorite fast-fashion destinations are classic enough to stay relevant for seasons to come!

Don't get us wrong, we love shopping as much as the next girl, but sometimes bouncing endlessly from shop to shop just doesn't cut it.

Luckily now it doesn't have to.

This Thursday, head to Vessel from 5-9 p.m. for Revelation Couture, a unique trunk and art show showcasing some of SF's most buzzworthy clothing and accessory designers like Harputs Own, Litter, Martha Davis and Jan Warnock, along with an impressive list of out-of-towners too.

Have you ever dreamed of finding unique treasures ranging from seemingly sweet heart pendants to a double-headed chick, all in one glorious place?

You've always dreamed of having a famous fashion designer, model and George W's humanitarian niece make a one-of-a-kind dress especially for you. Okay, maybe your dreams weren't that specific, but they should have been because now's your chance.

Look of the Week: Asian Influence

(blog)

With the nation's largest Asian American Film Festival kicking off today in our fair city, we couldn't help but be reminded of the brilliant Asian-influenced fashion that has been popping up on and off the runway for spring.

Whether you fancy a more literal translation with a brocade silk jacket or a dash of Geisha-inspired style with a kimono wrap dress, there's no better time to head to Chinatown and Japantown to pick up unique authentic pieces that will add an au courant touch to your wardrobe staples.

Kick off your (wearable) art collection this Saturday with the launch of local hatmaker Goorin Bros. Spring '10 1333 Minna Artist Series Line.

Look of the Week: Black Tie Affair

(blog)

With the Academy of Friends' Gala and the Oscars on our mind, we can't seem to stop fantasizing about getting dressed to the nines. Though sadly we don't get the chance to attend nearly as many extragavant black-tie affairs as we'd like, when the time comes we're always plagued with how to look fab without maxing out our credit cards.

An online treasure trove for all things handmade and vintage, Etsy is one of our top go-to sources when we want to break away from our fast fashion fixes and and opt for something unique but still inexpensive.

After scouring SF's Etsy Local shops for this week's round-up in anticipation of Tim Burton's remake of Alice in Wonderland, we wanted to share what's impatiently waiting in our shopping cart:

Mighty Pilates: Not Just Another Studio

(blog)
via mightypilates.com

News flash: yet another Pilates-based fitness studio has come to town.

No big deal, right? Oh so wrong.

Meet Mighty Pilates, the only studio in the Bay Area that takes your workout to the next level. Novices and buffs alike will no doubt leave sore after their energetic full-body circuit classes that incorporate Towers in addition to Reformer machines and fat-blasting cardio, all set to a hip soundtrack. And since they know you've got other things to do, they supply everything you need to get ready for shopping on Sacramento or dinner next door at Spruce.

Now that Noise Pop is officially in full swing, chances are you've already seen more live music...well, since last year...and it's not even the weekend yet.

We say it's time to switch things up a bit on Saturday and check out another kind of independent artist at Noise Pop's insanely popular indie design fair, Pop 'N Shop.
