Rare Device

'Tis the season of the pop-up shop! We've already seen a few around town for the holidays, but right now we're most excited about the soon-to-launch collaboration between local design boutique Rare Device and Poketo, a lifestyle brand based out of LA.

Rare Device

With all of the store and restaurant closings over the past year or so, sometimes you've got to pause for a second and reflect on all the great places in and around our city that are, thankfully, still open for business. Take Rare Device, for example. The Upper Market boutique has consistently wowed us with their selection of beautiful things for the home and beyond since they opened shop two years ago. The owners really work hard to find the best in art and design coming from local and up-and-coming artists, as well as national and international talents that deserve broader recognition.

Art Opening at Rare Device

(blog)

Rare Device has really been bringing it with their recent run of artists exhibiting in the shop. Rachel Denny's woodland creatures were divine, the work of Mark Warren Jacques left us elated, and Irana Douer's surreal line drawings stayed in our head for weeks. But with all due respect, we must admit we're most excited about the show that's going up tomorrow.

We’re all for love, peace and happiness, but there’s just something about stamping those kinds of words on an accessory that instantly dilutes a meaningful message. A new arrival at Market Street shop Rare Device, one of our fave spots for intriguing art and design objects, changes all this.

The "Tiny Houses" Movement

(blog)
Rare Device

A trend San Franciscans have long been touting, tiny houses (and small space living in general) is truly becoming a bit of a phenomenon across the country. Consider it the polar-opposite to the McMansions of the 90s; tiny house dwellers aim to reduce not only their home's physical footprint, but its carbon one, too.

Arounna Khounnoraj

For the past few years, we've noticed that felt is making a major comeback in the home. What's not to love? it is versatile, durable, and oh so soft. This week Rare Device will be hosting an art opening for their new exhibit by Arounna Khounnoraj and a trunk show from Papaver Vert.

We Heart the Mission Saturday Stroll

(blog)
Via Rare Device

Despite the hipsters, drug addicts, and occasional puke-spattered sidewalk, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone in the city that doesn't have a little place in their heart for the Mish. Why? The food, unique shops, and independent spirit keep everyone coming back. Show your love this Saturday by popping into some of your favorite neighborhood haunts in support of We Heart the Mission, a "midwinter stroll" featuring  sales, parties, and all sorts of incentives for keeping it local.
