What better way to honor America's birthday than by partaking in one of her favorite pastimes? San Francisco's beloved Giants will go head-to-head with the Houston Astros on their home turf at AT&T throughout the weekend. Enjoy a fireworks spectacular after the 7:15 p.m. game on July 3. With no experience, money or contacts, twin brothers Logan and Noah Miller set out to make a feature film because of a promise they made to their homeless father. Somehow they managed to cast Ed Harris, make the film Touching Home and write a book about the journey, Either You’re In Or You’re In the Way. Celebrate this never-say-die spirit at Bookstock 2009, where live music from Stroke 9 and Eoin Harrington and a live art show featuring over 25 renowned artists will keep you entertained. Plus, you can watch an advanced screening of the movie on the jumbo-tron.

San Francisco Opera will hold its annual simulcast from Civic Center in AT&T Park this Friday, June 5. This year's piece is Puccini's three-act drama Tosca, a sordid tale of deception, sexism, and betrayal, complete with a love triangle! Admission is free, but if you RSVP ahead of time, print your ticket, and remember to bring it, you'll get "preferred" admission starting at 6:30 while the general public waits until 7.

"High-low" may be a buzzword in the fashion world, but what about the concept of high-low entertainment? It can happen, as the San Francisco Giants have teamed up with Webcor builders to broadcast San Francisco Opera's June 5th performance of Tosca, live in HD at AT&T Park.

Don't miss your chance at high culture on the cheap. Set up camp at the ballpark for the SF Opera’s free, live, high definition video simulcast transmitted from the opera house to the scoreboard. Where else can you chow down on garlic fries, hot dogs and cold beer while watching classic Italian opera outdoors? Register for your free tickets online and plan to get there early to stake out your spot on the grass.

What better way to celebrate your day off than with a game at the ballpark? Our beloved San Francisco Giants return from a run of away games to play the San Diego Padres on Labor Day. Don't forget to try a bacon-wrapped hot dog from Tres Agaves while you're there.

Even though baseball is hardly Australia’s national pastime (cricket is more like it), the folks at South have adopted a “if you can’t beat ’em, join’em attitude.” On weekdays from now until October (and Saturday game days) they’re hosting a baseball happy hour—$5 bites and $6 bevvies.

We can only hope Tres Agaves' bacon-wrapped hot dog will look like this.

In the past few years I've heard of other ballparks in America serving "gourmet" fare—sushi in Seattle, Cuban sandwiches in Miami, fish tacos in San Diego. At AT&T Park the food has historically been pretty standard—hot dogs, garlic fries, beer. But starting on Monday, opening day, there's a new game in town. Tres Agaves has taken over the three concession stands formerly leased by Compadres, so eating at the game is about to get a lot better. What's in store?

Spring is in the air and baseball is back on the mound. Batter up for opening day at the ballpark. Sneak out for lunch and see the Giants vs Milwaukee. The first 40,000 fans will receive a 2009 calendar.
