Just in time for the most beautiful day, here's a lick of good news to go with it. Looks like the city is soon to be even richer in ice cream (and popsicle) shops. Here's the scoop.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. Recchuiti Confections is hosting an old-fashioned ice cream social to benefit Spark, a youth empowerment program aimed at engaging middle school students. Head to Dogpatch for a silent auction and raffle, kiddie tables, bon bons, ice cream sodas and more.

Join this fun and tasty ride to some of SF's top ice cream shops. You'll ride and then sample at least six top-rated creameries across the city. Taste new flavors, socialize and even get a bit of exercise while you're at it. The ride will be a leisurely 10-12 miles with at least six shops and will include a few hills to work off the extra calories. Bring a lock, water bottle and ice cream money, and hope for a hot day!

Adam Smith Is Obsessed With Ice Cream

(article)

Adam Smith, the owner of Fog City News, presides over the city’s best collection of two of our favorite things, chocolate and magazines, with a passion that verges on obsession  (hint: Fog City is a great spot to load up on stocking stuffers). Smith’s sweet tooth runs deep—his other obsession: ice cream.

“You would think I have enough of a sweet tooth as it is, but I am an absolute SLAVE to ice cream. I forbid myself to keep it in the house. I love it so much that it kind of freaks me out. One year I took a group of friends on an ice cream tour of the Bay Area, and I used coffee ice cream as my point of comparison. I don’t drink coffee, but I love coffee ice cream. Swenson's, believe it or not, was the winner. So Swenson's is my go-to choice partially for that reason, but also because I tend to favor places with a sense of history and Swenson's has that over the rest of the pack.

It's that day of the year we've all been waiting for—Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day. Stroll over to the nearest scoop shop after basking in the sun and pick your favorite flavor. Get in on the action with a celebration of the chunkiest, funkiest ice cream around. Trust us—the line is worth the wait.

Humphry Slocombe's Jake Godby on Punk-Rock Ice Cream, Dynamo Donuts and His 31 Flavors Tattoo

(article)

The rebel with the sweetest cause.

The rebel with the sweetest cause.

Jake Godby may seem shy, but spend a few minutes with him and his sense of humor emerges. It even infiltrates the flavors at his two-month-old Mission District ice-cream shop, Humphry Slocombe. The opening pastry chef at Coi and, back in 2004, George Morrone’s Tartare, admits he likes to “push the envelope.” Red Hot Banana is banana ice cream mixed with crushed Red Hots; he suggests pairing Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee with Secret Breakfast to start your day. And the customers?

More Obama Love: Yes Pecan!

(blog)

We’ve already given you a couple of things to do on January 20 to ring in our new Mr. President, but for the hedonists among us, here’s a much simpler way to get in the inaugural spirit: Go to any Ben & Jerry’s and order a scoop of the newest flavor, “Yes Pecan!”

The long-awaited view from inside Humphry Slocombe
Christine Ryan

And what's even more surprising, it's good. What's not surprising is the fact that the place—Humphry Slocombe, owned by Jake Godby, formerly of Coi, etc. etc.—is using McEvoy Ranch olive oil.

If just for the name, I’ll be stopping by Humphry Slocombe, the latest ice cream shop to hit the Mission, slated to open a few weeks from now. (If this weather continues I’d advise lining up starting right now at 2790 Harrison at 24th Street.) The brainchild of Jake Godby, the opening pastry chef at Coi (who also spent time in the kitchens of Boulevard, Fifth Floor and the defunct Tartare), Humphry has no designs on being the ice cream-for-everyone shop (witness flavors such as salted licorice, salt-and-pepper and sweet corn-and-blackberry). Godby gave us the scoop.
