SF Indiefest

(event)
$10 in advance

Get ready for a packed two weeks of intruiging movies that will blow your mind. Kicked off by WA DO DEM (starring Norah Jones and San Bones) on February 4, there's a lot to be anxious about in this year's lineup. A promising season of the highly anticipated, the documented and the plain crazy makes The Roxie the place to be seen.

Portugal. The Man

(event)
$15

Their power, passion, energy and oh-so-humble attitude keep Portugal. The Man at the top of our tout list. The Alaska-bred, Portland-based indie rock band is out with a new album, The Satanic Satanist, which has already garnered good reviews from Pitchfork Media and more. Let John Gourley's imagery-laden lyrics provide backdrop for a seriously existential experience.

Tickling the ivories: Maus Haus singer Jason Kick in a cove of keyboards
Mark Sherman

If this show was an accurate representation of what to expect this year in Bay Area indie, we're in for a hell of a ride.

Oakland four-piece Chambers opened the evening with their ultra-rich brand of nu emo.  Think Yeah Yeah Yeah’s with a male singer.

The Painted Bird: Best Bang-for-Your Buck Vintage

(article)

It's like walking into your hipster best friend’s closet.

It's like walking into your hipster best friend’s closet. Walking into Nate Archer and Sunny Walker’s colorful Mission District shop, Painted Bird, is like walking into your hipster best friend’s closet that you’ve always envied. But unlike said friend, you can get all your scenester leather boots and ’60s summer dresses in one affordable shopping trip. Walker, an FIDM graduate, has a discerning eye for what’s cool now, and she’s pickier than the buyers at Buffalo Exchange or Wasteland.
