When this whole cupcake trend started a few years ago, most of us excused it as a Hollywood trend. No, we were better than Paris Hilton and her little cupcake and her little Chihuahua. Well, we were wrong—this city has embraced the miniature cakes to their collective breasts. This Sunday, February 21, Cooks Boulevard will host a charity event for the San Francisco Food Bank. Tasty cupcakes will be provided by Jasmine Rae Bakery, Mission Minis, Kingsom Cake and Teeny Cakes.

Indulge for a cause. Join Sprouts Cooking Club and Whole Foods for an evening of live jazz, organic wines, savory tapas and chocolate decadence at Venus Restaurant in Berkeley. All proceeds for the event will go to culinary scholarships for underprivileged East Bay youth to attend Sprouts' special cooking classes. Sprouts is a Bay Area nonprofit that believes in bringing hands-on cooking lessons at real restaurants with real chefs to children of all backgrounds.

City Youth Now bridges the gap for San Francisco youth in crisis. On Saturday, December 5th, City Youth Now and MAX (Mens Associated Exchange) will be hosting the 54th Green Room Party that will help raise the necessary funds to provide over 2,000 wrapped holiday gifts to youth in San Franciscos foster care and juvenile justice systems. Attendees will have the opportunity to dine on fine food by Delicious, Inc., dance to live music and enter to win several raffle prizes.

Design for Good at Roche Bobois

On November 12, 2009 Roche Bobois and three of San Fransico's top designers unveiled and auctioned chairs they designed to raise money for their favorite charities. Guests enjoyed cocktails while bidding on silent auction items. All proceeds benefited Stop it Now, Spark and Smile Train.

It seems like there is a competition for everything today, from beard-growing to air guitar to chicken-wing-eating. Meet the latest addition to the world of competition: grocery bagging. And, like air guitar, Scrabble, and spelling bees, somebody has made a documentary about the phenomenon. "Ready, Set, Bag!" premieres in San Francisco tomorrow night at the Roxie (7pm), followed by a Q&A with the film's directors.

Please join us Friday, December 4th, as we raise funds and gather toys for the San Francisco Firefighter's Toy Program. The San Francisco Firefighter’s Toy Program is the city’s largest and the nation’s oldest program of its kind. Since 1949, it has evolved from a few firefighters repairing broken toys and bikes for 15 families to, in 2004, 300 firefighters and friends volunteering their time to distribute over 200,000 toys to more than 40,000 disadvantaged children.
