tres agaves

10/19/095:28 pm

In celebration of their fourth anniversary (and a recent article in Playboy that named the spot among American’s top tequila lounges), Tres Agaves will be throwing a party on Sunday. Expect food specials, a DJ and plenty of tequila.

Interested in seeing your favorite restaurant staffers facing down the plate? The home plate, that is—on Sunday, July 26, the 2nd annual Restaurant Softball League Tournament will be heating up on the Crocker Amazon diamond, featuring players from Ducca, Jardiniere, Town Hall, Tres Agaves and more! The tournament runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is followed by an after party at the Tipsy Pig—tickets for the game and the party are only $10.

Cinco de Mayo may be over, but that doesn’t mean the party should end. On May 21 Tres Agaves will be hosting a dinner with Nicole Hajek, brand ambassador for Tequila Corralejo, one of few tequilas produced outside of Jalisco. They’ll be a margarita-making class, a tequila tasting, five-course meal and, of course, a mariachi serenade.

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Joanne Weir releases her latest book, Tequila: A Guide to Types, Flights, Cocktails and Bites. The kick-off party on April 19 will be held at (where else) Tres Agaves, where you can sample a Partido margarita, get yourself mixed up in a vertical tequila tasting and snack on housemade chips and salsa (and, of course, pick up a signed book). RSVP is required.

We can only hope Tres Agaves' bacon-wrapped hot dog will look like this.

In the past few years I've heard of other ballparks in America serving "gourmet" fare—sushi in Seattle, Cuban sandwiches in Miami, fish tacos in San Diego. At AT&T Park the food has historically been pretty standard—hot dogs, garlic fries, beer. But starting on Monday, opening day, there's a new game in town. Tres Agaves has taken over the three concession stands formerly leased by Compadres, so eating at the game is about to get a lot better. What's in store?

How Are Restaurant Prices Decided? Quince Chef Breaks It Down

(article)

With SF's restaurants being forced to up their prices, diners are being asked to put their money where their ideals are. In pursuit of the real bottom line, Quince chef Michael Tusk takes us on a journey from farmers market to final bill.

With SF's restaurants being forced to up their prices, diners are being asked to put their money where their ideals are. In pursuit of the real bottom line, Quince chef Michael Tusk takes us on a journey from farmers market to final bill.

Driving across the Bay Bridge one bright Friday morning with Michael Tusk, chef-owner of Quince restaurant, I find myself looking at the dashboard of his beat-up car, ablaze with warning lights, and thinking how unfortunate it would be if we were to break down right here, right now. For one thing, it’s starting to rain.

The Bartender Shuffle

It’s 10 o’clock—do you know where your favorite mixologist is right now?

It’s 10 o’clock—do you know where your favorite mixologist is right now?A bartender isn’t just a bartender anymore. Some actually prefer to be called “bar chefs” (which seems appropriate, considering the increasing mise en place of cocktail ingredients). And just as SF foodies follow their favorite toques, today “boozies” dutifully follow their preferred mixologists. But the chase is complicated. Some top bartenders hold down as many as three gigs.

Jalicscan-style dishes turn up the heat.

Jalicscan-style dishes turn up the heat. Finally, the city’s Mexican restaurants are stepping it up a notch. First Impala, with its “Mexi-luxe” menu and sultry downstairs lounge, opened in May. Now Marina newcomer Mamacita is dishing out authentic tacos and enchiladas with house-made tortillas. Just a home run away from SBC Park, Tres Agaves unites Globe’s Joseph Manzare with tequila expert Julio Bermejo of Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant. Manzare is heating up SoMa with Jaliscan specialties, including birria (roasted goat in tomato-chile broth) and hearty huitlacoche-stuffed chiles rellenos (pictured here).

This cavernous former warehouse unites Globe’s Joseph Manzare with tequila expert Julio Bermejo of Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant for a winning combination of great food and great tequila. Giants fans from the ballpark across the street and downtowners ready for an after-work drink head for the bar.

Eats:What's on your menu.:
Specialties from Jalisco, the region in Mexico from which blue agave hails, are the focus of the menu. Entrées include birria (roasted goat in tomato-chile broth) and earthy huitlacoche-stuffed chiles rellenos. With plenty of tequilas to choose from, it’s all too easy to put out the flames with the house specialty, an unsalted margarita on the rocks.
