Navy to Name Ship After Gay Rights Activist Harvey Milk, USNI News

The Navy is set to name a ship after the gay rights icon and San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, according to a Congressional notification obtained by USNI News. The July 14, 2016 notification, signed by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, indicated he intended to name a planned Military Sealift Command fleet oiler USNS Harvey Milk (T-AO-206). The ship would be the second of the John Lewis-class oilers being built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, Calif. Read more.


Durant Shines as Team USA Takes Down Argentina in Olympics Tune-Up, NBA

Kevin Durant shined in a game that the U.S. Men's National Team was able to dominate from start to finish. In the first game of their Showcase series in advance of the 2016 Olympic Games, Team USA was able to control the game, ultimately winning 111-74, backed by a game-high 23 points from Durant. Health Officials Issue Warning About Toxic Algae in Discovery Bay Waters, NBC Bay Area

Health officials on Monday issued a warning to residents in Discovery Bay to stay out of the water due to the rising levels of algae blooms. According to the Central County Water Board and Contra Costa County Health Services, swimming in the algae infested waters should be off limits because recent tests prove the algae is in that area, and it has the potential to produce harmful and sometimes deadly toxins.
