Why: Psychoanalyst Pilar Jennings turned to a Tibetan Buddhist monk when she encountered a six-year old girl who stopped speaking due to trauma from loss. Through those sessions, the girl began to heal. Dr. Jennings went on to write a book called To Heal a Wounded Heart: The Transformative Power of Buddhism and Psychotherapy in Action documenting the journey where western psychology melds with Buddhist teachings.
