What you need is a personal trainer. Or maybe just a solid wearable to keep watch and wag a helpful finger when you start slacking off. There are countless trackers out there that can tell you how much you've walked, slept and gotten your heart pumping, and some will remind you to do these things when they sense your motivation waning. Our favorite wearables are like a trusted workout partner who keeps you accountable from your pocket—there's no hiding from these bad boys.
Motiv's Titanium Ring
This SoMa-based brand is fashioning one of most discreet wearables around, and it's the only ring of the bunch. The titanium ring (it comes in gray and trendy rose gold) tracks heart rate, activity level, steps and sleep. And while it's super newness means a few kinks are still being worked out (the sleep tracking is occasionally off, and sometimes we have to manually input our workouts), Motiv earns point for style and discretion—you may even forget you're wearing it. // $199, mymotiv.com
FitBit's Ionic
Fans of FitBit will recognize the brand's first smartwatch, the FitBit Ionic—one of the larger, more techie-looking wearables on our list—because it packs in so many features. Despite its width, the thing band is's comfortable to wear and the battery can last up to four days on one charge (or 10 hours if you're using the super-accurate GPS). The Ionic tracks heart rate and sleep and recognizes a variety of workouts; it also offers notifications. For runners, the Run Detect feature kicks into GPS when it sensing you're running distance; swimmers can take this guy down 50 meters deep. No run is complete without a playlist: Ionic can store and playing up to 300 songs. // $300, fitbit.com/ionic
Nokia's Steel
You want a more classically stylish (smart)watch you say? Check out the Nokia Steel HR, developed by the company's SF-based innovation arm. The Steel is the sleekest-looking of this bunch and has an impressively long battery life (of up to 25 days!). It tracks heart rate and activity, and recognizes a number of workouts, including volleyball and ping pong. Our favorite feature, though, is its Smart Wake-Up, which will time your wake-up call to cause the least disruption during REM cycles. // From $130, health.nokia.com
Misfit's Vapor
We haven't tried the MifFit Vapor yet, but based on the Instagram feeds of some of our favorite fitness influencers, it seems to be the coolest kid on the block. If you're looking for something with playful, on-trend colors, a customizable watch face and a younger, more feminine vibe, the Misfit is your smart watch. It has all of the notification and music capabilities you want, plus it's integrated with Google Assistant. Vapor operates on a points system (1,000 points equal 10,000 steps) and takes into account different intensities of movement. Like the smartwatches above, it also has GPS and is safe for swimmers down to 50 meters. // $199, misfit.com
