Foreign Cinema Hosts Guest Sommelier
Since 2001, Freeman Winery has been a pioneer of cool-climate chardonnay and pinot noir, developing a portfolio of balanced, sophisticated wines embraced by connoisseurs and collectors around the world. This Thursday, October 13, Ken Freeman will serve as guest sommelier at Foreign Cinema, bringing a chardonnay and eight different pinot noirs to showcase during regular dinner service, from 5:30 to 11pm. Fieldwork Brewing Beer Dinner at Comal
Comal's beer dinner series continues on Tuesday, October 18 with Alex Tweet, head brewer and co-owner of Fieldwork Brewing, who will bring a hand-picked selection of small batch beers to pair with the 5-course meal prepared by Comal executive chef Matt Gandin. Expect halibut crudo served with County Line Saison, pork tamales paired with Brown Ale, and traditional flan served with Hollowtail Blanc and Churro Beer. Miracle Grain Keg Party at The Perennial
There's a new miracle grain in town, and The Perennial is making the most of it. Kernza—a perennial wheat with a deep, dense root system—apparently fights climate change by keeping carbon in the soil. Patagonia Provisions (yes, that Patagonia) recently released Long Root Ale, a craft beer made from Kernza, and The Perennial will be pouring it on Tuesday, October 18, starting at 5pm. The keg party features Long Root Ale and house-made kernza bread with various toppings, ranging from pork to veggies to house-made butter. Toss a Banker in the Pool
When was the last time you tossed a banker into a swimming pool for a good cause? Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation has been doing it annually for more than two decades to raise money for kids and families in the Tenderloin. Their 24th Annual Pool Toss, slated for Tuesday, October 18 at Phoenix Hotel/Chambers Eat + Drink, features illustrious tossees from Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Lyft, PIXAR, and more. This Little Piggy Likes Bourbon
If pork is your favorite food group, you'll want to pig out at Cochon Heritage BBQ this Sunday afternoon, hosted by Magnolia Smokestack. The global BBQ competition features five chefs cooking whole, heritage breed pigs, from which they create six dishes each. Guests graze among the dishes while hydrating with craft beer, wine, aged bourbon, and cocktails from a Manhattan bar, a rum cart, a tiki bar, and the Perfect Margarita Experience. Entertainment includes a pop-up butcher demonstration and auction. Proceeds benefit the Piggy Bank, a farm that provides free heritage breed pigs to small farms in exchange for transparent business plans that are posted online.
