Check out these 7 things—all happening this week.
1. A tailgating touchdown: Impress your pals by ordering Luna Park’s Tailgate Platter for Superbowl Sunday (the restaurant will take orders this Friday through the end of the game on Sunday). For some of us, it’s not about who wins or loses; it’s about the food—Niman Ranch BBQ chicken and ribs, coleslaw, French fries, beans and mashed potatoes.
2. Pig out: Bar Bambino is hosting a six-course tasting menu showcasing every cut of an Acorn Edition pig not reserved for curing (La Quercia Farm in Iowa raises 50 heirloom, acorn-fed, organic Berkshire pigs). The dinner is Thursday at 8 p.m.; call 415-701-VINO for reservations.
3. Antioxidants unite: Chocaholics and tea lovers can explore the nuances of pairing tea and chocolate at Charles Chocolates in an hour-long class this Thursday (other dates: February 28 and March 20).
4. Celebrate citrus: CUESA’S first event in its 2008 Market to Table series starts Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with interviews with local citrus-growing farmers and a cooking demo by cookbook author Stephanie Rosenbaum.
5. Show them you care: Pull up a seat at the communal table next to one of Incanto’s favorite local farmers and ranchers at the 5th Annual Farmers’ Appreciation Dinner. The dinner is at Incanto on Monday, February 4, but call 415-641-4500 ASAP as it’s going to sell out.
6. Polish your beads: Fat Tuesday is a week away, and Town Hall is celebrating its 4th annual Fat Tuesday bash with traditional N.O. fare (think gumbo, oysters, crawfish, shrimp and corn bread). Proceeds benefit Alice Waters’ Edible Schoolyard project in New Orleans.
7. Looking ahead: Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. Two menus that look especially tasty are the ones at Farallon and A16 (which is also celebrating their four-year anniversary that day). A16 is serving their signature calamari pizzetta, among other dishes; and Farallon’s menu is bursting with aphrodisiac ingredients (not just oysters).
