You can practically smell the streets of New Orleans - not to mention the bourbon - in the cozy bar room setting of EmSpace’s inventive Tennessee Williams’ remix. Injecting a supercharged dose of modern dance into the high drama of A Streetcar Named Desire, A Hand in Desire artfully blends dialogue, movement, and live music.
Playing with the themes and images of this iconic Southern-fried classic, the show’s composition is informed by a poker game - there are 52 scenes, each associated with a card. Some scenes are the same each night while others are chosen by an audience member from a deck of cards - so no show is ever the same. Carefully detailed and emotionally rich, A Hand in Desire is a poker risk worth taking.
