Here’s some news that we dare say will be music to San Francisco fashion lovers’ ears: Carolina Herrera will be in town next week at Davies Symphony Hall for a fashion show featuring her Fall 2011 collection.
If it sounds like an unusual event for the Symphony (or San Francisco, for that matter), that’s because it is.
“We haven’t done this in a really long time, in over thirty years…We wanted to do something really, really special,” says Patricia Ferrin Loucks, chair for the event presented by the San Francisco League of the San Francisco Symphony and Neiman Marcus in honor of the San Francisco Symphony’s 100th anniversary season.
Featuring a runway built especially for the occasion, An Evening with Carolina Herrera promises exactly that. The fashion icon and winner of the 2008 CFDA Geoffrey Beane Lifetime Achievement Award will mingle with guests during a special pre-show reception for ticket buyers at the $500 level and above. A performance by San Francisco Symphony Principal Trumpet Mark Inouye & The Unit opens the evening’s entertainment, which continues with a showing of the Fall 2011 Carolina Herrera Collection presented by Neiman Marcus. A dinner for ticket-buyers at the $300 level and above closes out the night of fashion and music.
All proceeds from the evening support the Symphony’s music education programs, benefitting over 75,000 Bay Area children each year.
“We really believe that if it weren’t for these programs, many of these children wouldn’t be exposed to music,” says Loucks.
