Calling all bridge & tunnelers, tourists and yes, even you locals -- there's a new reason to head out to North Beach, and it's not for a night of epic boozing, but rather, for a daytime tryst. That's right, take a little urban hike out to Acrimony's amazing new sister-store, ACRE/SF, a cafe-clothier that recently opened on Telegraph Hill.
For her latest retail endeavor, local fashion darling Jenny Chung chose to open a concept store that incorporates the little pleasures in life: clothing, accessories and a good cup of coffee. Twice the size of Acrimony, the loftly new storefront houses a full boutique and cafe, serving keenly fresly brewed Blue Bottle coffee, an assortment of bottled beverages, daily pastries from House of Bagels, and even some It's-Its ice creams sandwiches. That's right, ladies and gents -- shopping just got a lot sweeter.
On the fashion front, clothing hangs from modern, industrial fixtures that were custom built by local craftsmen, while an old shopping cart and magazine stand serve as decorative relics from the nearly 100-year-old Italian deli (New Union Grocery) that preceded ACRE/SF. As a whole, the pieces are more affordable than Acrimony's higher-end designer selection, featuring brands like:
- Guys: Gitman Brothers, Opening Ceremony, Nudie, Makr Leather Goods, Rachel Comey, Wings + Horns, Lifetime Collective, Billy Kirk.
- Gals: Rachel Comey, Cheap Monday, Jeffrey Campbell, Vena Cava, Funktional, Unif, Henrik Vibskov, Laugh Cry Repeat, Something Else by Natalie Wood, Kai-Aakmann.
Unique housewares and giftables, like California beeswax candles by Pollen Arts, are scattered throughout the store, as well. For now, the online merch is available through Acrimony's site, but a store visit is simply essential. Make the trek uphill, then sip, shop and stay awhile.
ACRE/SF(301 Union St.), open daily from 9am-5pm.
