New in Noe Valley
Lovers of Mediterranean eats—think luscious dips and lots of little plates for sharing—will want to check out Ardiana, the new Noe Valley restaurant from the folks behind Gialina and Ragazza. Fans of these SF mainstays may be thrilled to find pizza on the menu, but we're more interested in the warm pita and spreads (smashed avocado, carrot hummus, roasted eggplant), sharable mezze (leek fritters with mint-cucumber yogurt, prosciutto di parma with herbed salad) and Cal-Med entrees (grilled lamb chops with whipped feta, braised short rib with smashed potatoes, spaghetti amatriciana). // 1781 Church St. (Noe Valley), ardianasf.com
Fried Chicken Friday!
Marla Bakery is making Friday even better. On the best day of the week, starting at 5:30pm, Marla is dishing up juicy, crispy cast-iron fried chicken (choose two or four pieces) with bread-and-butter pickles, cabbage and sweet pepper slaw, and oh-so-fluffy black pepper buttermilk biscuits. Quantities are limited, and they will sell out quick, so get your butt to the Outer Richmond stat. // 3619 Balboa St. (Outer Richmond), marlabakery.com
Sicilian Wine Dinner
As part of its new dinner series, Tawla is focusing on the cuisines of Sicily, Provence, and Andalucia, as well and their Eastern Mediterranean roots. On August 17th, Tawla Does Sicily. The dinner will include mafalda, a braided loaf made of semolina flour; an heirloom tomato panzanella with anchovies, capers, and fresh wild oregano; warm, house-made 'nduja and pickles; salt-baked trout with grape leaves, Meyer lemon and fennel, and more. The menu will be paired with selections curated by wine director Shaundon Casonguay. // 6:30pm at Tawla Cellar, 206 Valencia St. (Mission); tickets are $96 at tawlasf.com.
ABV's Overproof Tranforms into Este Oeste
The Mission's ABV has shifted gears on its upstairs bar concept: Most recently known as Overproof, the new Este Oeste takes its name from the winds of southern Spain that affect the aging of sherry wines. Unsurprisingly, sherries, as well as gins, will be the cocktail focus, with five mini-cocktails that'll leave you pleasantly buzzed as opposed to smashingly drunk. For pairing, chef Collin Hilton has cooked up a menu of rustic, coastal, Spanish-style dishes including house-cured sardines and ham; heirloom tomato toast; "hand paella" with bay shrimp, sweet chorizo, and chanterelle aioli; and baby octopus salad. Two seatings (6:30 and 9pm) will be offered on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. // $75, reservations required; ABV, 3174 16th St (Mission), abvsf.com
