If you haven’t waded into the depths of your closet lately for a serious clean-out session, here’s a reason to put that on your to-do list: next week marks the beginning of the annual dress drive from the Princess Project, a San Francisco-based non-profit that gifts high school girls in need with new and gently-used dresses and accessories so they can step out in style on their prom nights.

Since its debut in 2002, the organization has given dresses and accessories to over 15,000 girls. Any high school student with a valid I.D. for the current school year can walk away with a free dress and a matching accessory during one of the Princess Project’s dress upcoming giveaway events, held in March.

Ready to donate? Dresses must be formal gowns, prom or party dresses in excellent condition, contemporary in style (purchased in 2005 or later), dry-cleaned and on hangers. Starting Feb. 7, you can drop them off at numerous San Francisco locations, including Bar Method, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Tedda Hughes. Dresses can also be donated via mail to The Princess Project, c/o Team Worldwide, 405 Eccles Ave., South San Francisco, CA 94080.

If you don’t have a dress to donate this year, you can let your hands and feet help the cause, thanks to a mani-pedi event taking place at Tootsies in Oakland on Feb. 5. Stop by or make an appointment on that day for $15 mini manicures and $20 mini pedicures, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Princess Project.
