If you’ve had the pleasure of visiting NYC’s High Line—an urban park built into an old elevated rail line on Manhattan’s west side—then you'll know just how important it is when we tell you that the landscape architecture firm responsible for that gem was just selected to transform San Francisco's very own waterfront. If you haven’t, you should know this much: this is awesome news.

James Corner Field Operations will design 13 acres of new parkland at the Golden Gate Bridge National Recreation Area dubbed the New Presidio Parklands Project—essentially the stretch of land that will replace Doyle Drive (the formerly elevated onramp to the Golden Gate bridge) and reconnect the historic Main Post and Crissy Field in the Presidio. The project won’t be complete until 2018, but the renderings alone promise much needed excitement for the area: an outdoor amphitheater, modern amenities, and sleek walkways integrated with the surrounding nature that capitalize on the bay’s most stunning vistas are all part of the proposed design.

With this new project, as well as the Transbay District underway, San Francisco is poised for a major facelift—and we can’t wait until the bandages come off.
