Soko Jewelry Store Lands in Potrero

Soko, the Everlane of the jewelry set, opens its first retail flagship in Potrero Hill on Wednesday, July 20. The modern pieces—rings, hoops, cuffs and collars—are crafted of recycled brass and other sustainable materials. (We're already obsessed with the horn rings.) Along with its full line of reasonably priced, ethically made beauties, the boutique will also carry curated goods by other like-minded local labels, à la Joshua+Vela, Future Glory, Petel, Ella Lou and Chronicle Books.

As far as the two-year-old company's unique take on "radical transparency," it uses a proprietary smartphone app that connects directly with more than 1,000 artisans in East Africa —no factories whatsoever. "Soko is not an aid project; it's a hyper efficient business model in which all stakeholders win—artisans, retailers and consumers," says local founder Gwen Floyd. What's set to stomp into Freda Salvador's Fillmore Street store on Wednesday, July 20? The result of its very first collab—and what a goodie it is. The limited-edition canvas shoe features a geometric print by SF artist Clare Rojas. Freda's iconic d'Orsay oxford (Wit) serves as the fierce foundation for the eye-popping print available in muted shades of gray, and a mélange of red, orange, yellow and black. (Yes and yes.)
