Sometimes eavesdropping on other people’s interesting conversations is the ideal way to make that tricky work-to-socializing at happy hour adjustment. Tomorrow night’s book launch for architect David Rockwell and designer Bruce Mau’s Spectacle should provide just such an antidote to cubicle-induced conversational disorder. It features a conversation between Rockwell and Wired founder Kevin Kelly that’s moderated by Chee Pearlman, curator and former editor in chief of I.D. magazine. Set to take place in the W’s Great Room, the event will include a presentation of images from the book—which, as its name suggests, focuses on 60-plus “far-flung, fleeting, beautiful and bizarre man-made events around the world.” (Think: Burning Man.) Plus, perhaps the most enticing spectacle of all: In-the-know W hotel guests mixing with culture-vulture freeloaders there to clean up on hosted wine and hors d'oeuvres from XYZ.
The event (which runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m) is open to the public and can be attended by sending an email to RSVPWSFevents@whotels.com.
