If you’re anything like us, you’re looking at the limp economy as a glass half full instead of one that’s half empty. It just means fewer shoppers to compete with over a greater number of post-Thanksgiving day sales, no? If your inner shopping optimist draws you to downtown to sniff out the Black Friday deals, we also recommend checking out a few new shops that have recently opened in this ever-changing shopping district.
Start with local designer Bacca da Silva’s namesake boutique on Sutter and Mason streets, which stocks the full collection of da Silva’s colorful cashmere sweaters, graphic print scarves and one-of-a-kind cocktail dresses and separates. The Brazilian-born designer, who founded his label in 2004 and constructs much of his collection from his studio on the Embarcadero, also specializes in handmade custom work, which you’ll see in the form of a white bubble-dress confection displayed in his storefront.
Next, head over to the new Joe’s Jeans store—only the second stand-alone Joe’s boutique in the U.S.—on Grant Avenue. The small but slick shop stocks equal parts men’s and women’s casual wear, a smattering of handbags, jewelry and sunglasses, and, of course, the L.A.-based brand’s signature premium denim. We’ve got our eye on the cheeky unisex handcuff necklaces, which are in-store exclusives.
Looking for the perfect cocktail dress for your upcoming holiday party? Head to the new Herve Leger boutique inside the Westfield Shopping Centre. The Parisian couture house, owned by the BCBGMaxAzria group, also designs women’s ready-to-wear. We couldn’t help but be amazed by the gorgeous array of body-conscious bandage dresses. But if the thought of pouring into a stretchy number after binging on turkey and mashed potatoes is simply too much—you’ll also find the perfect A-line black sequin skirt here, which can transform any top into a party-ready ensemble.
