To figure out one's preferred occupation, guidance counselors are fond of asking what you'd do if you won the lottery; you know, after all the traveling and shopping had lost its luster. We always wondered if we could just let the trips and spending go on forever, much like Keith Johnson's job as buyer-at-large for Anthropologie. Since we haven't cracked that magic Mega Millions combo just yet, we'll have to content ourselves by living vicariously through Johnson, whose exploits will soon be televised on Sundance Channel's new show, Man Shops Globe. See Keith explore little-known shopping haunts from Tunisia to Argentina, commissioning work from local artists, discovering antique gems, and effortlessly rethinking old rusted wares into fabulous birdhouse art holding... things (check out what we mean in any of the video snippets here).
While pricing and company practices at Anthropologie have gotten under our skin before, the creative style of the brand–from the store's artfully rendered window displays to the jaw-dropping vintage pieces throughout–always leave us inspired, and its thanks largely to Johnson's work. We'll no doubt be watching when the show airs October 7th, as will the folks at the Anthro store on Market. They're putting together a little screening party complete with snackies and drinks to celebrate the premier. If you'd like to attend, head over next Wednesday between 7 and 9PM (make sure to RSVP at ManShopsGlobeSF@laforce-stevens.com) and hunker down for the show.
