Free Booze for Mama
Mom deserves a drink for Mother's Day, and several local watering holes are offering the first one for free, when you bring her in for brunch on Sunday, May 10. Aveline (490 Geary) is serving up a free mimosa for Mom and a sweet treat to take home after brunch, while E&O Kitchen and Bar (314 Sutter) is offering a complimentary glass of bubbles and a housemade tea-infused marshmallow coated with dark chocolate. Canela (2272 Market) is toasting all moms with a Spanish rose and a glass of rosé—sparkling NV Avinyo Rosado Reserve Brut Rosé Cava, at that. Copita Tequileria y Comida (739 Bridgeway, Sausalito) is treating all ladies (including Moms) to a complimentary taste of their house-made Rose Sangria with strawberries. Or spring for the new, seasonal Strawberry Rhubarb Margarita. Mom's worth it.
Elvis Old Fashioned at Blackbird
Just in time for Spring, Blackbird has released a dozen new mixed drinks and a new draft cocktail, ranging in price from $8 to $11. Our favorite is the Elvis Old Fashioned, made with bacon-infused Tennessee Whiskey, banana, cacao, and peanut-infused Angostura bitters. They're also rolling out their first bottled cocktail called the Singapore Spritzer, which is their take on the classic Singapore Sling. 2124 Market
Grab a Grappa Cocktail at Delarosa
You don't have to be a light-weight to enjoy spirits that are lighter in alcohol than the hard, brown stuff. Stop by Delarosa for an Italian-inspired drink made with grappa or amaro. The Ital 75 features gin, aperol, grapefruit and prosecco, while the Miele Julep combines honey grappa and amaro nonino with mint and lemon. After dinner, try the Espresso Correto, which is simply a short shot of espresso with a shot of grappa on the side. Sip them side by side; combine them in one glass; or drink the espresso, then pour the grappa into the espresso cup and swirl before enjoying. Salute! 2175 Chestnut
Celebrate Maifest with Schroeder's
Schroeder's, the oldest German restaurant restaurant on the West Coast, is celebrating its 122nd anniversary with a traditional Maifest celebration this Friday and Saturday evening. They'll deck the beer hall with colorful handmade paper flowers, fill the air with live music from Polkalicious (Friday) and Blowmusik! (Saturday), host a stein holding contest and a sausage eating contest, and encourage dancing with abandon. No reservations are required. Prost! 240 Front
Celebrate All Week at Gaspar
Gaspar Brasserie is 121 years younger than Schroeder's, but that's not stopping them from hosting a week-long celebration for their first anniversary, starting with a seven-course traditional French dinner on Saturday, May 9 (Tickets available online for $95/person + $55/wine pairing). The party continues Tuesday, May 12 through Sunday, May 17 with special menu items (think truffles, foie gras and spring lamb) and a celebratory cocktail - the Cognac French 75 ($10) - made with cognac, champagne and lemon. 185 Sutter Street
