Drink Here Now: Tiki Night at Blackbird, Late Night at Delarosa + Happy Hour at Hog & Rocks
30 March 2016
Man, being reasonable, must get drunk; the best of life is but intoxication. ~Lord Byron
Late Night at Delarosa
We've always thought San Francisco was sorely lacking in the wee-hours bar food department, so we're thrilled with the new late-night menu at Delarosa's Marina location, which is available until 1am, along with their regular menu. The new late-night bites are limited but focused on exactly what you'll need for your second wind: think traditional meatball sandwich ($9), Mexican-inspired calzone ($10), and Italian-style mac and cheese ($10). Wash it down with Pisco Punch ($9), the Shakira cocktail ($8 - mezcal and gran classico), or a Happy Meal ($10 - Trumer Pilsner and a shot of Fernet Branca). // 2175 Chestnut Street (Marina); delarosasf.com
Weekday Happy Hour at Hog & Rocks
If you're one of those folks (like us) who likes drinking on school nights, Hog & Rocks has a seat for you at the bar. Drop by any weekday from 5 to 6:30pm for $4 beers, $8 bubbly, and $7 cocktails, along with $1 oysters and some new tasty bar snacks starting at $3. // 3431 19th Street (Mission); hogandrocks.com
Monday Night Social Club at Beretta
Beretta's got a new bar manager, and when California "Cali" Gold takes the reins in April, she will be the first woman to head up the industry-favorite bar since it opened in 2008. Besides bringing her formidable cocktail-making skills, she is bringing in a different spirits partner each week for Monday Night Social Club, which features three special craft cocktails for $8 each from 9pm to 1am. On April 4, she'll make the cocktails with Arkansas Black Apple Brandy. Pierre Ferrand Cognac is on deck for April 11. // 1199 Valencia St. (Mission); berettasf.com
Tiki Night at Blackbird
Blackbird's first tiki night was such a success that they're doing it again on Sunday night, April 3, from 8pm until 2am. The special "one night only" menu will feature cocktails made with Plantation 3 Stars Rum and mixed by the booze brand's California Regional brand ambassador, Michael Goldman, who will guest bartend for the evening. DJ Ol' Cus will spin a reggae-themed set. Wear your best Hawaiian shirt for a chance to win a tiki mug, but leave the tiki torch at home. // 2124 Market St. (Castro); blackbirdbar.com
Girls-Only Tequila Tasting at Copita
We rarely get a chance to mention the monthly gathering of the Agave Girls in Drink Here Now, because the popular event usually sells out long before the column goes live. But we just got word that a few seats remain available for this month's tequila-tasting party, which is slated for Tuesday, April 5, from 6:30 to 9pm. Tickets ($65 - available online) include a tasting flight of tequila, passed appetizers, and a three-course dinner paired with tequila cocktails. It's hosted by PBS Chef and tequila author Joanne Weir, co-founder of Copita Tequileria y Comida and creator of the Agave Girls. // 739 Bridgeway Ave. (Sausalito); copitarestaurant.com
