Eat + Drink Events This Week: Dosa Easter, Toronado Does Belgium and A16 Helps Abruzzo
08 April 2009
Perbacco’s Perfect Passover
Celebrate Passover at the second annual Italian-Jewish Passover dinner at Perbacco, with Perbacco chef Staffan Terje and Joyce Goldstein presiding. The four-course $49 feast will include a selection of antipasti (crispy fried artichokes, anyone?) and your choice of soup, followed by your choice from six entrees, a side-dish and, of course, dessert. For reservations, call 415-955-0663.
Dosa Does Easter
Yes, you could suffer through another fancy, bland Easter brunch, pushing honey-glazed ham around your plate. Or you could go a little multi-culti and celebrate Jesus’ resurrection with—what else—an Indian feast! On Sunday, April 12, Dosa on Fillmore will be serving, among other things, strawberry-banana uttapams (think pancakes), a dosa filled with scrambled eggs, tomatoes, chiles and onions and a curried Bloody Mary. Reserve now!
Taking The Edge Off Tax-Time
Tax day is less than a week away, and we’re betting you could use a drink. Or two. Daytime imbibers should take advantage of Palio D’Asti’s $1 martini lunches, offered all month long, Monday through Friday. No joke. We’ll see you there.
Amore Per Abruzzo
On April 14, A16 will be hosting a benefit dinner for victims of the Abruzzo earthquake. The kitchen will be preparing some Abuzzo-inspired dishes to be served along with regional wines, and all proceeds will be sent directly to relief agencies supporting the victims. To make a reservation, call 415-771-2216.
More Than Just Waffles …
This month, the good beer lovers at Toronado are celebrating the brews of Belgium. Get in on the action by heading over and sampling one of the dozens of Belgian-made or Belgian-style beers available, from Allagash White to Verhaeghe Echte Kriekenbier.
Something Fishy
The second Woodhouse Fish Company has opened on Fillmore, right across the street from SPQR. The East-coast inspired fish shack is currently open only for lunch and the restaurant is still awaiting a liquor license, but the fried fish sandwich, we’re betting, is just as good as ever.
Egg On Our Face
This Saturday, April 11, CUESA will be hosting a most eggcellent event (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves). The Eggstravaganza (sorry, that’s really what it’s called) begins with a mayonnaise-making tutorial and egg-dying class led by chef Boris Portnoy (both begin at 10 a.m.) followed by egg-focused recipe demos with Amaryll Schwertner of Boulette’s Larder (11 a.m.) and Aaron French of the Sunnyside Café (11:45 a.m.).
