Irian Jaya
My friend Kristen is an avid fashionista (and blogger) who’s also very eco-conscious, so when I found out that Arboretum, a relatively new eco-fashion boutique in Healdsburg, was having a fundraiser and fall fashion fete last Saturday, she was the first person I IM’ed.
Arboretum is a relatively new shop located just off the square in Healdsburg that focuses on ethical apparel. Co-owners Kate and Andrea focus on sourcing limited production, socially and environmentally conscious fashions from the likes of Linda Loudermilk, Rag & Bone, Edun Covet and more. Needless to say, when you’re shopping for a good cause (20% went to the Westside Elementary School Fire Relief Fund) and buying clothes that leave a small footprint, you can’t really have buyer’s remorse.
So, riding that shopper’s high, we decided to hit Cyrus for a drink. I met Scott Beattie, Cyrus’ crazily (in a good way) creative bartender, at SF’s Cocktail Week last spring and was sure he’d never remember me, but being an expert bartender, he was able to place my face and offer us a warm welcome. Kristen and I were looking forward to sipping something new, and Scott’s creations didn’t disappoint.
Cyrus’ cocktail and spirits menu is about 50 pages long (not counting wine) so I focused on the fall cocktails and ordered the Irian Jaya. This drink alone was worth the drive from and back to the city. So many flavors hit my palette, and the tartness made my face glow. Here’s the ingredient list: Hangar One kaffir lime vodka, lime juice, candied lemongrass, pickled Nardello peppers, Thai chiles, kaffir lime leaf and ginger beer.
So if you’re in need of some adventure, I say head up to Wine Country and get a cocktail at Cyrus.
