Environmental Photog Edward Burtynsky Receives Art/Act Award + Exhibit at David Brower Center

Thanks to this drought, the grass isn't so green in California anymore. But as TED Prize–winning photographer Edward Burtynsky will show in his upcoming exhibit at Berkeley'sDavid Brower Center, water depletion is a global problem. The grass isn't really greener on the other side.
For more than three decades,the Canadian artist has stunned audiences with his photographs depicting colossal depletion of land and natural resources. His images tell powerful stories of land transformations and the human reaction to the changes. Now, Burtynsky will receive his due: The artist is set to be honored with the Brower Center's seventh annual Art/Act Award & Exhibition, September 18, 2015 through February 4, 2016.
The Art/Act Award & Exhibition pays tribute to artists who create work "that inspires environmental advocacy and engagement." Past honorees include Maya Lin, Richard Misrach, and Chris Jordan.

At the exhibit this fall and winter, Burtynsky will display Water, a series of ariel photos showing once-abundant water sources turned into desolate land; as well as a group titled Quarries and one photo from the Shipbreaking series.
To further Art/Act's agenda of environmental activism, the Brower Center is offering a number of special events and programs in conjunction with the exhibit, including a fundraiser with the artist himself, lectures, music and more.
