Famed Photographer Todd Hido Celebrates Erica Tanov's 25th Anniversary With a Provocative Photo Book
16 November 2015
Bay Area fashion girls worth their salt are well versed in the sartorial expressions of Berkeley designer Erica Tanov, who celebrates her line's 25th(!) anniversary this week with a very high-profile collaboration.
On Thursday Nov. 19, a special reception will celebrate the anniversary along with the release of a limited edition commemorative booklet shot by leading photographer and local resident Todd Hido. Culture buffs will know Hido's fine art photography from their pilgrimages to such museums as SFMOMA, LACMA, and the Guggenheim, where his work resides in permanent collections. 7x7 readers will recognize his editorial work from stories like this one and this one. Known for dark, provocative imagery, Hido's images celebrate the subtle sex appeal of Tanov's clothes, whose fine materials and raw aesthetic echo Hido's style.
At this week's event, Ammunition design studio partner Brett Wickens will moderate a conversation between the two artists, whose book will be available with purchase at Tanov's Berkeley store until they run out. Here's a sneak peek at a few of the images. You'll have to go in person to see the rest for yourself.
