All hail Michael Pollan! Local rock star professor and author Pollan will be discussing his newest book Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation. Tuesday, May 7

Celebrate SFMade week with a special behind-the-scenes look at Bi-Rite. The Bi-Rite Family of Businesses Tour takes you down 18th street stopping at the market that started it all, followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the creamery and ending with wine and cheese tasting at 18 Reasons, Bi-Rite’s art and community division. Hungry to learn a little something new? New York Times food columnist and author Mark Bittman will in the city sharing his foodie insight. Bittman will discuss his newly released book VB6 (short for Vegan Before 6) and will bring humor and kitchen secrets to the evening’s event. Thursday, May 9

The stars have aligned for Taste of Portrero 2013. With San Francisco favorites like Lolinda, Commonwealth, Smitten, State Bird and Trick Dog serving up food and drinks, this event puts too many great things in one place. Even better, the proceeds go to Daniel Webster elementary school, a struggling school where 50% of students are economically disadvantaged and 60% are on the school lunch program. This is a night of fun that will do serious good. The event is from 6 pm to 12 am and tickets start at $100 here. @ SOMArts, 934 Brannan St.

A celebration of food, photography and female artists, Sip. Savor. Share! highlights the best SF has to offer. The art show focuses on the food and cocktail culture of our vibrant city, and includes the work of some of the area’s top food and culture photographers. The opening reception is from 6-9 pm. @ Public Works, 161 Erie St.
