Mardi Gras Celebration
Are you ready for 40 days of fasting? Didn't think so. Celebrate your last hurrah before Lent at Hopscotch, where they're serving a decadent Fat Tuesday menu on February 17 from 11:30am–10pm with an extended happy hour from 3–6pm. Chef Kyle Itani will cook gumbo, boudin balls, shrimp bo’boys, and red beans & dirty rice. The menu pairs perfectly with beverage manager-owner Jenny Schwarz's quintessential New Orleans cocktails, the Sazerac and Vieux Carre. 1915 San Pablo Avenue (at 18th Street), Oakland
Hawker Fare Comes to SF
SF has been missing out on chef-owner James Syhabout's delicious fare for some time now, but that's all about to end. The much-lauded chef has just opened a new location for his Oakland-based Hawker Fare in the former Amber Dhara spot on Valencia. Look for everything from spicy salads to one pot curries with two bars: upstairs and downstairs. Nice. 680 Valencia (at 18th Street)
Vegan Valentine's Pink Beer Dinner
Citizen Fox (the forthcoming plant-based restaurant, brewery, and bar set to open June 2015 in the Mission) is hitting the pop-up circuit. Celebrating both Valentine’s Day and SF Beer Week, C-Fox's Vegan Valentine’s Pink Beer Dinner (Tuesday, February 12; 6:30pm) pairs vegan fare with rosy beers curated by master cicerone and Citizen Fox brewmaster Rich Higgins. A five-course feast includes dishes such as endive cups with three fillings, paired with a marionberry hibiscus gose; blood orange salad with homemade chèvre, roasted gold beets, and homemade rosemary-sage bread, paired with Framboise Boon; pistachio-crusted tempeh with walnut-pomegranate sauce and sauteed rapini paired with Oud Beersel Oud Kriek; and on a sweet note, chocolate allspice cake with caramelized bananas, chocolate-coconut sorbet paired with a Kasteel Rouge. $75; 945 Valencia (at 21 Street).
