A Cooking Class at Scala's Bistro
Taught by Executive Chef Larry Finn and Executive Pastry Chef Kimberly Bugler, this is your chance to work side-by-side with the chefs in the Scala’s Bistro kitchen and create a delicious seasonal meal. You'll learn about the different varieties of heirloom tomatoes, how to prepare a doughless tart, butcher a rack of lamb, and to make ice cream. The day starts with a continental breakfast upon arrival, and from there the class will be broken down into small groups to prepare different aspects of lunch. This month, the menu includes: Heirloom tomato salad; lamb chop with vegetable tart; and apricot sorbet with basil ice cream and pavlova served with wine pairings. Nopa's New Farm Adventure Program
Famed resto Nopa is launching a new adventure program this week; Seasons is a curated event series providing unique, onsite engagement with the food industry. On the inaugural trip this week, farmer Jolie Devoto will lead you in an estate tour followed by a cellar tasting of her award-winning heirloom cider. Lunch will be prepared by Chef Laurence Jossel and pastry chef Anna Lee will provide pastries and Blue Bottle Coffee for the morning ride up to the farm.

Bocanova's 5th Anniversary Fundraiser Dinner
Bocanova is turning five this Labor Day Weekend and inviting diners and guests to celebrate the occasion with its annual anniversary fundraiser supporting Oakland Fund for the Arts. The anniversary celebration will begin with hors d’oeuvres, wine, live music, a silent auction, and a wine cellar raffle, followed by a buffet-style dinner featuring a menu prepared by Bocanova’s Executive Chef John Jackson with wine, beer, and cocktails. A student band financially supported by Oakland Fund for the Arts will accompany the evening.

20th Street Block Party
The second annual 20th Street Block Party (presented by NoisePop) offers a delicious summer feast and dance party with music by Rogue Wave, Cayucas, Melted Toys, Ray Barbee and The Mattson 2 featuring Tommy Guerrero, plus some of the city’s best restaurants and bars (Flour + Water, Trick Dog, Central Kitchen), local businesses (KQED, Sightglass) and artisans (Southern Exposure).
