Your guide to the tastiest foodie happenings going down this week. Bon appetit!
Hopscotch Chef in a Knife Fight
Chef Kyle Itani of Hopscotch is gearing up for his cooking competition debut on Esquire's Knife Fightnext week. Itani will compete against Jason Paluska (The Lark in Santa Barbara) in a head-to-head cooking battle held at host Ilan Hall’s restaurant in downtown LA. The clock stops for nothing. During Chef Kyle’s episode taping, the producers wouldn’t even stop the clock after realizing there was no fryer oil in the place. Someone had to run out and buy enough to fill the fryer! Plus, the pantry is sparse. Itani snuck a few of his key Japanese ingredients past TSA on the flight to LA. Chef Kyle is one of three Bay Area chefs to compete in this season of Knife Fight, along with Charles Phan (Slanted Door) and Traci Des Jardins (Jardiniere). After next week’s episode, locals will have the opportunity to experience one of the dishes from the show all month at Hopscotch.
Airs Tuesday, August 19: 10 pm, Esquire.
