Salt & Straw Opens in Hayes Valley
Salt & Straw opened its second location in Hayes Valley last Friday. The scoop shop will feature a menu of 17 flavors created by head ice cream maker Tyler Malek, who helped start the company with his cousin Kim Malek in Portland six years ago. Flavors include classics like sea salt with caramel ribbons and almond brittle with salted ganache, as well as San Francisco exclusives including Sightglass coffee, single origin Dandelion Chocolate, teranga baobab juice and coconut. There will also be some spooky seasonal offerings—look out for Creepy Crawly Critters with chocolate covered mealworms blended into a matcha ice cream and Dracula's Blood Pudding (ice cream cooked into real blood pudding). // 586 Hayes St (Hayes Valley), saltandstraw.com
Gail Simmons Cocktail Party at Rich Table
Food writer, culinary expert, and judge on Bravo's Top Chef, Gail Simmons is hosting a cocktail party at Rich Table to celebrate the release of her new book, Bringing It Home. James Beard–nominated chefs Evan and Sarah Rich will be serving bites inspired by Gail's book, and there'll be prosecco flowing all night. Kitchen Work Magazine Dinner
To celebrate the third issue of Kitchen Work Magazine, Heirloom Cafe, the team behind the literary journal about what and how we eat and drink, is holding a dinner with award-winning writer Daniel Duane (New York Times, California Sunday). The dinner will be hosted October 29th, and will feature owner Matthew Straus in conversation with Duane followed by a chef-inspired dinner with wine pairing. Son's Addition added to 24th St.
Son's Addition opens tomorrow on 24th street. From husband-and-wife team, Nick and Anna Cobarruvias, the restaurant comes with some culinary clout. Nick was former Chef de Cuisine at Marlowe while Anna worked front of house for the last fifteen years at at Anzu, Last Supper Club, and Maverick (RIP). Expect a hyper-seasonal, globally inspired menu, including sharable items like bacon-kimchi deviled eggs, five spice braised lamb shank, pan roasted black cod with celery root, and more.
