Foodie Updates: The Vestry Debuts, Lers Ros Heads to the Mission, and More
20 September 2013
This week's news, in addition to the opening of Fog City, includes a new Mission restaurant attached to the Chapel, a shuffle at Daniel Patterson's restaurants in Oakland, and the news that Lers Ros is expanding to the Mission.
Opening about a year after we thought they would this week was The Vestry, which made its debut Thursday night in the space attached to The Chapel music venue at 777 Valencia. It's a project from the team behind Oakland's À Côté, and the menu is somewhat similar: Californian, straightforward, and small-plates focused. They'll be open seven nights a week in conjunction with the venue, and brunch is in the works too. [7x7]
Also in the Mission, we get word today that popular Thai destination Lers Ros is expanding to the neighborhood, after opening successful spots on Larkin and in Hayes Valley. They'll soon be taking over the Malai Thai location on 16th Street, but the opening date is still TBA. [Inside Scoop]
Salumeria, the European-style deli and charcutier attached to Central Kitchen and associated with Flour + Water, is expanding to a second location next week. The new Salumeria will be in the newly renovated Hamm's Building at 1550 Bryant Street at the edge of Potrero Hill, and it will feature many of the same popular lunch items as the original, like the signature salumi sandwich, and the roast beef sandwich with horseradish aioli on a Firebrand pretzel roll. But new to this location will be breakfast starting at 7 a.m. [7x7]
In SoMa, last night marked the opening of Bergerac, the swanky, sofa-filled new restaurant/lounge downstairs from new 11th Street dance venue, Audio Discoteque. The food is a mix of snacky and heartier things (don't miss the boneless wings and the addictive bagna-cauda-buttered popcorn), and the drinks range from the sophisticated (a spin on the Manhattan with vadouvan-infused Maraschino liqueur) to the not-so-sophisticated (a shot of Fireball dunked in cider). But look out for some crazy flair bartending tricks and group drinking rituals. [7x7]
Over in Oakland, chef Kim Alter recently transfered from the kitchen at Haven, which she opened nearly two years ago, to the smaller kitchen at Plum. Meanwhile Coi sous chef Chris Johnson has been given the top spot at Haven -- all three restaurants are part of chef Daniel Patterson's growing empire, along with the upcoming Alta CA on mid-Market. Both Plum and Haven now have new menus. [Eater]
Also of note in the East Bay: The Bourbon & Branch/Future Bars team is taking over the former Beckett's space in Berkeley to open their first East Bay venture, called Tupper & Reed. And yes, there will be table reservations, so get ready to join in on that trend, Berkeley. [Inside Scoop]
