The Giants' season may be over, but the bike fun has just begun. This weekend brings a whole slew of events for the two-wheeled lovers. From bike art shows, to foodie group bike rides to biking classes and group rides, there are plenty of activities to satisfy any bicycle enthusiast. Here’s a look at a few.
PaperGirl Gallery Opening: In September, I wrote about PaperGirl, the gallery show on wheels. Papergirl gets rollable art submissions from artists across the city, and then people on bike deliver them, a la Paperboy (girl) style, tossing them at people or peoples’ front steps). This Friday, they’re having a proper gallery opening featuring all the bike-tastic art submitted for throwing. Friday: Incline Gallery, 766 Valencia, 6-9pm, free
San Francisco Bike Party: First Fridays are group rides for Bike Party, a super fun, law-abiding, music-pumping monthly group ride. This month’s theme: mustache ride. So grab your bike, your artificial or actual mustache, bike, and lights and meet up with them. They haven’t announced the starting location yet, so tune into their Facebook page for updates. Friday, Location and time TBA, see their Facebook for updates
Bayview Third Street Foodie Ride: Join District 10 Supervisor Cohen this Saturday on a bike ride to some of Bayview’s best restaurants along 3rd Street. Stop and sample food along the way, and get to know some of the south end’s restaurateurs. There’s a new booming food scene in D10 and now’s your chance to get to sample it. There are only spaces for 25 people. Details on RSVP here.Saturday, 3rd Street, 10-12:30, RSVP for starting location
Intro to Safe Biking Class: If you’ve been thinking about starting a bike commuting habit, but are tentative about taking to the pavement just yet, join the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition for a free one-hour introduction to Safe Bicycling Workshop. This intro class covers everything from the Rules of the Road, to how to choose the right bike, to how to find the best route around the hills. Saturday, Chinatown Library, 1135 Powell Street, 2:30-3:30, RSVP at sfbike.org/edu-intro
