Gabriella Sarlo, the New York born, SF-raised owner of Potrero Hill's newest design showroom, SARLO, shares with us seven items she just can't live without. The Cow Hollow resident recently launched the new SARLO website, which design enthusiasts peruse at their own risk, as the potential to buy something amazing—from mercury glass hurricanes to an elephant head coffee table—is just too great.
Textiles by Celerie Kemble for VALTEKZ. "These faux-skin fabrics are the perfect 'cruelty free' solution to get the look of skins and hides with the price and durability of vinyl."
The color pink. "Since a very young age it's been my favorite and I've never gotten tired of it. My friends laugh when they see my bedroom because they know it's just so 'me.' I did pillows in this gorgeous Cowtan and Tout pink-and-gold Suzani print and covered the window seat in a pink herringbone pattern by Ralph Lauren. My store has lots of splashes of pink in different tones and patterns."
Green papaya salad and vegetarian imperial rolls at Slanted Door. "The perfect lunch with a million-dollar view of the bay."
Journals from Smythson of Bond Street. "I love the assortment of bright colors and find that they are the perfect spot to jot down ideas and inspirations."
Carolyn Quartermaine. "I have been a friend and fan of her art and textiles for over a decade and find her sense of color and composition timeless, elegant and modern at the same time. Her gold calligraphy prints, which are handprinted on silks, are sublime...my personal favorite being the fruity pink taffeta."
Clive Owen. "Need I say more?"
Any of the Buddha Bar compilation CDs and French rapper MC Solar. "We always have to have something with a chic, international vibe playing at the store. Buddha Bar #8 is a must have."
