Perhaps it was the White Stripes who brought audience deception back into fashion, but at some point it became rock de rigueur for musicians to screw with people’s heads Re: their personal history. So forgive Georgia-based Of Montreal if they’ve misled you about their origins, but, come on, it’s just a name. And the euphoria-inducing indie rockers do happen to have a way with the words: What’s not to like about their new album’s title: Hissing Fauna Are You the Destroyer? It’s just cracked out enough to ensure greatness, without taking itself too seriously. Personally, I’m already tapping my foot in anticipation of a live performance of the song my best friend Jess first introduced me to awhile back: “Wraith Pinned to the Mist,” which, semi-horrifyingly, has also been hijacked for a recent Outback Steak commercial. Sell your soul for a ticket to the sold out show at Bottom of the Hill (bottomofthehill.com) on Feb. 1 (their hope-crushing website proclaims “SOLD OUT!: No tickets will be available at the door either). Or act now and buy tickets to on of their two shows at Great American Music Hall on Feb. 2 and 3 (gamh.com).
