If you heart the Mission, then this weekend’s Mission United shindig at Public Works is one to add to your calendar. Not only does it offer fashion, music and a chance to dance around wearing a freaky mask (don’t fight it), but proceeds from the event benefit worthy neighborhood charitable programs at San Francisco General Hospital and its Dr. Rick Psychiatric Department Volunteer & Rehab Services, Root Division and SFSmiles.
The evening kicks off with a trunk show and fashion installation (8-10 pm) featuring local retailers and designers such as Skunkfunk, Five and Diamond, Miranda Caroligne, Unavakin, Isso Shop, Mission Statement, Marie McCarthy, Jenna Schmidt, Ginne Designs, Venus Superstar and others.
A slew of local DJs (Ghosts on Tape, Shawn Reynaldo, Afrolicious DJs, Primo, White Mike and Gordo Cabeza, among others) provide the music, while food from local restaurants, drink specials and tequila sampling provide the fuel for the night ahead.
And what of the masks? Upstairs from the main room, a Masquerade Carnival room with a rotating roster of DJs gives you an appropriate outlet for any pesky Halloween hankerings you’ve been fighting lately.
If it sounds like a sweet plan, you’ll be interested to know that we’ve got a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader. Score them by being the first person to email SFVIPFashion@gmail.com with 7x7 in the subject line.
Mission United takes place March 5 from 8 pm-3 am at Public Works (161 Erie St., between 14th and Duboce). Tickets, $5.
