Calling all two-wheelers. If you haven't yet checked out Novato's Stafford Lake Bike Park, here's a look inside the wheelie-poppin' action.A multi-phase project from Marin County Parks, this 9.5-acre bike park, located on the western edge of Stafford Lake, opened late this past August.
In its initial phase, the park, with about two miles of riding trails, has a bit of something for all ages and skill sets: a dual slalom course; a single-track loop; technical trails with kickers, rollers, and berms; and a zone designated for kids just learning to ride. A parking lot and picnic area make this spot an easy all-day outing—it's open from sunrise to sunset. Entry is free; parking starts at $5.
You'll be happy to know that the park also incorporates sustainable erosion control methods and organic vegetation. Soon, the second phase of construction hopes to bring more advanced features, including several pump tracks and an elevated trail.
Friends of Stafford Lake Bike Park is a nonprofit seeking volunteers and donations for upkeep and further development. If you donate by November 1, 2015, you can help the bike park reach its $25,000 goal, which SF's Haas Foundation has generously offered to match.
Head to Novato for a bike day with the fam, or head online to find out how you can volunteer. Enjoy the photos! // Stafford Lake Bike Park (Novato), staffordlakebikepark.com
