Never mind the flop that was Google Glass. Google's technology has already taken over the world, and now driverless cars are on the way. So what's next? Smart jeans, of course.
In collaboration with SF-based Levi's, Google is working to develop interactive textiles with, wait for it, bluetooth capabilities. The mega-company's so-called Project Jacquard will give designers the technology to make clothes that can alert you to important text messages or search for the name of your favorite jam.
Paul Dillinger, VP of innnovation at Levi's, says the new technology is "an opportunity to get our faces out of our phones, to be engaged in the real world again." We can't help but smile at the irony of this statement coming from one of the foremost companies responsible for all-pervasive tech. But at least the jeans might be a little less obnoxious than Google Glass.
Project Jacquard textiles are projected to hit the market by the fall of 2016. Could the days of tapping your smartphone to email your boss slash search for a donut shop slash snap a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge be nearly over? Soon, you'll be able to simply tap that ass. (Sorry, we just couldn't help it.)
