1. Mission Treat The Bold Italic is throwing a microhood party down on Shotwell and 24th Street, what looks to be a dreadfully good time. Art and fashion as well as of course food and drink will be on offer, including Local Mission Eatery ($3 craft beers, oysters with apple gelle and pate with mustard and greens—yum) and La Victoria Bakery's Soul Cocina Kitchen, a pop-up headed by chef Roger Feeley. Thursday, October 28, 7 to 9 pm
2. Scary Ice CubesYour party just got better with the addition of LED illuminated skull-and-crossbone "ice" (actually just frozen gel). Don't forget the peeled grape eyeballs.
3. Speakeasy's Halloween Hootenanny Bluegrass music might not be the most terrifying genre (Death Metal? yes) but The Brothers Comotose will be strumming along at Speakeasy Brewery (1195 Evans Ave.). Free entry, costume contests, $3 beer and some limited-releases such as The Don IIIPA. Deadly. Friday, October 29th, 4 to 9 pm
4. Bread of the Dead Sounds creepier than it tastes, but Rulli Bakery is baking up their pan dei morti—an All Saints Day (Nov 1) delicacy—which we got a taste of today in the office and it's delicious. Almost more cookie than bread, it's very Italian tasting, full of raisins, almonds, orange peel and pine nuts.
5. The 1,535 Pound Pumpkin And well, we can't eat it, but we can marvel. This year, Ron Root won first place in the Half Moon Bay World Champion Pumpkin Weigh Off. The first Calfornian to be bestowed this honor since 1999. It won him $6 a pound. You do the math. These are some great pics.
