The time has come to dig out the potato latke recipe, dust off the ol' menorah and brush up on those dreidel skills. Luckily, starting today and through Sunday, December 18, there's a Hanukkah palooza in Cow Hollow to get everyone in a festive mood. Yes, there will be shopping, lots of shopping.
Presented by the Jewish non-profit Reboot, the Hanukkah Pop-Up on Union Street is both a holiday bazaar and a celebration of "Jew-ish" life featuring a slew of fun, family-friendly events.
As far as gifts go, we're planning on rustling up these two: Instant Ugly Hanukkah Sweater, which includes five decorative patches (i.e. dreidels, Hanukkah gelt, menorahs) to uglify any sweater in a jiff, and Jew Jitsu Socks, starring an image of a guy with payot—looking suspiciously like Woody Allen—and wearing a gi with a yellow belt. Of course, you'll find more serious items like books, music, tees and greeting cards sure to make them kvell.
The pop-up is also a place to gather and enjoy special events each day, including tonight's (6pm–10pm) Dreidel Gaming; your $10 admission gets you a seat at the table and a Mazel Tov cocktail. Other highlights: a children's reading with Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) and illustrator Lisa Brown re: their book "The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming" on Saturday, December 17 (11am); and a screening of Tiffany Shlain's new documentary 50/50, which explores the 10,000-year history of women and power on Sunday, December 18 (6pm). Check out the full list of events.
Who's ready for some reindeer Maccabi games?
