No doubt you've been seeing heirloom tomatoes everywhere on menus and in stores lately–that's because tomato season is in full swing, and now's the time to eat as many as you possibly can. One way to achieve maximum tomato exposure is to head to the Bardessono Hotel, Spa and Lucy Restaurant & Bar’s and Hill Family Estate’s fourth annual Tomatoville festival. It's a weekend-long extravaganza beginning on September 28 that's chock full of events honoring–you guessed it–peak season heirloom tomatoes.
It all begins with a tomato-themed, five-course winemaker dinner on Friday, September 28, that's presented by Hill Family and Hill Family Estate Winemaker, Alison Doran. It's a five-course, prix fixe menu created by executive chef Victor Scargle and paired with Hill Family Estate wines ($100 per person). The next afternoon on September 29, everyone's favorite sandwich gets the spotlight. You'll create your own BLT with different varieties of heirloom tomatoes, artisan apple wood smoked bacon, burrata, garden-grown basil and freshly baked breads, paired, of course, with wines from Hill Family Estate ($60 per person, includes wine).
To top it all off, end the weekend with possbily the best-sounding hangover cure ever, a Bloody Mary and cheese tasting in Lucy Garden with executive chef Victor Scargle. Along with its tomato bounty, you'll enjoy NapaStyle’s artisanal salts, grapeseed and olive oils, Laura Chenel Cheever cheese and Kollar Chocolates. The morning continues with lead barman Vincent Lee’s Bloody Mary creations, made with Charbay’s locally distilled citrus vodka. Just forty bucks includes tastings of tomatoes, salts, olive oils, cheese, chocolate, and Bloody Marys.
Don't miss out on this year's bounty of gorgeous, delicious tomatoes!
