'Tis the season for tequila, and lots of it. This year La Cocina hosted the best party in town sponsored by Hornitos Tequila—a Cinco de Mayo fiesta at Southside Spirit House chock full of custom cocktails, street tacos, and oversized sombreros to get you revved up for summer, and benefiting local non-profit La Cocina.
Hornitos delivered a healthy dose of the holiday spirit in the form of three custom cocktails: the Mexican Mule made with Hornitos Plata tequila, ginger beer, and lime, a Hornitos Margarita topped with lime and agave, and the Abuelito, made fresh with Hornitos Black Barrel tequila, Luxardo apricot liqueur, and bitters. Guests also snacked on fresh chips and salsa and donned festive green-mustachioed sunglasses as they waited in line for the photobooth and the chance to pose with enormous papier mâché limes and margarita glasses.
The evening honored La Cocina, the non-profit kitchen incubator for low-income food entrepreneurs. Focusing primarily on immigrant women and those from communities of color, Mission-based La Cocina is now fostering 30 up-and-coming businesses and a growing roster of graduates around the Bay Area.
