1313 Main, the wine bar in downtown Napa popular for their Winemaker Wednesday series — which attracts some seriously important and interesting characters each week — is now serving food. Called “Lulu’s Kitchen” the newly minted restaurant is offering an eclectic assemblage of dishes to pair with the diverse wine list.
While you could make a pretty substantial meal of it (duck confit ravioli, hangar steak with succatash) the bar-like and wine-centric atmosphere (high tops and lounge tables surrounded by a wall of wine bottles) lends itself better to small bites and creative pairings. An extensive by-the-glass menu and the fact that there is a sommelier on the floor all evening means you may just find the perfect match for both the abalone wontons and the braised pork belly.
Or how about a glass of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti to go with the pheasant flatbread? Oh yes, you can. 1313 is one of just a few restaurants in the area using the new-to-market Coravin — an instrument that displaces the wine in the bottle with argon gas through a syringe without the cork ever being removed. This means they can offer difficult-to-find and prohibitively expensive bottles of wine like DRC and Harlan by the taste or glass.
As a counter to the fancy wine and clubby atmosphere, Lulu’s also has a “secret menu” — available upon request — that includes a burger, poutine and korean wings. Why not have a glass of Harlan with your hamburger?
Lulu’s Kitchen at 1313 Main is open daily from 4-10 with a limited menu on Friday and Saturday nights until Midnight.
